Tholáge® Neuropsychotherapy can help treat depression, anxiety, trauma and many other mental disorders.
Research shows pushing down difficult emotions, especially about early-life experiences, brings on symptoms and mental disorders, including depression, anxiety, trauma, OCD, eating issues and many others. Suppressing deep emotions, such as healthy regulated anger toward a caregiver or other important person from early life, can also show up as irritability or rage or numerous other symptoms.
Tholáge® helps people access and experience (tolerate) those difficult emotions in a therapeutic setting. Over time, this creates new neural pathways, so you can start experiencing and regulating your emotions on your own. Tholáge® also uses deeply parasympathetic, relaxation states shown to create feelings of safety, social connection, well-being, and even joy.
Tholáge® techniques are non-invasive and somatic, putting the power in your hands. Tholáge® uses these techniques both to destabilize traumatic memories and then to reconsolidate them with these new associations, changing the way your body responds to traumas–and the disorders that result from trauma and emotion suppression.
How Tholáge® Works
Tholáge® Neuropsychotherapy is a service that therapists perform to treat their patients for depression, anxiety, trauma and many other mental disorders. The cost is determined by your therapist.
You can be assured that your therapist will be formally trained by Tholáge® Wellness, which was founded by the creator of Tholáge®, Deanna Chrones.
Every part of Tholáge® Neuropsychotherapy service is thoroughly grounded in the existing research body of literature and in new studies specifically on Tholáge®, which are on-going. Tholáge® leans heavily on the known neuroscience of memory reconsolidation, which requires the use of a calm parasympathetic state to destabilize a traumatic memory (take it apart), the accessing of positive emotions such as safety and empowerment to attach to the destabilized memory, and then the required use of a sympathetic state (under the supervision of the therapist) to reconsolidate (close up) the memory in this new form. The literature shows this process should be repeated.
No other treatment purposefully activates these various states, along with re-narration, and without medications (unless required by your psychiatrist). Tholáge® allows patients to think about the traumatic event without the fight-or-flight response or the need to numb out in some fashion.
