Susan Stroemel

My specialties are perinatal maternal mental health, parenting, recovery for adult children, depression, anxiety, and the treatment of complex trauma. I am a counselor and a masters-trained art therapist. In counseling one’s inner world can be discovered in the making of imagery, both through the content and the motion required to make it. I am grounded in attachment theory and in the universal need to be loved and belong. Group work can provide community in a way that individual counseling cannot. I have written an art therapy curriculum called, “The Art of Mothering in Community,” and I use it daily. I am certified as a parent educator from the National Parents As Teachers program. I have worked with and supported new mothers for over twenty-five years and am a lactation consultant.
